When Hunting Creek Country Club opened in 1964, the Hunting Creek Company appointed James Callaghan as the club's first president. Ed Moore and E. J. Sullivan made up the board of governors. Don McCullough was the first golf James Callaghan chairman and Peyton Talbot the first membership chairman. The club and staff operated under the supervision of Club Manager Katie Barnes.

The Hunting Creek Company remained in control until 1972.
